UCLA Health Staff Research Associate I - Ophthalmology in Los Angeles, California
Description
Under the direction of the PI, the
incumbent is responsible for molecular biology aspects of the research
project. Duties include carrying out
molecular biology procedures, i.e. cloning, mutagenesis, sequencing, polymerase
chain reaction, preparation of recombinant plasmids, and general recombinant
DNA methods. Duties also include
culturing cells and carrying out biochemical assays. The incumbent will be engaged in research
projects involving cloning and characterization of genes. The incumbent will maintain an inventory of
cDNA, DNA plasmid stocks, the lab and equipment in order.
Qualifications
Required:
Knowledge of molecular biology techniques
Skills and extensive experience in human and mouse cell culture technique,
Skills in cryo-section
Skills in isolating and purifying high quality DNA and RNA
Skill in sub-cloning of cell lines
Ability to use molecular biology software
Ability and experience to perform immunohistochemistry
Knowledge of cell culture, including thawing cells, culturing cells and freezing cells
Ability to perform protein analysis by gel electrophoresis and Western Blots
Ability to establish and maintain records and supply stocks
Skill in maintaining the lab and equipment in working condition
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers
Demonstrated experience and skills in using the following Pipettes, Centrifuges,
Balances, Incubators, Thermal cyclers, Dry blocs, Shakers, Autoclaves, Water baths, Liquid nitrogen tanks, DNA synthesizer, PH meter, sequences
Preferred:
Ability to work with mice, setting up breeding pairs and recording births and weaning animals
