UCLA Health Genetic Counseling Assistant - Clinical Genetics in Los Angeles, California
Description
Under the supervision of the Senior Genetic Counselor, the Genetic Counseling Assistant is responsible for facilitating the care of genetics patients seen in various Clinics at UCLA Health including ATLAS Clinic. In this role, you will serve as an integral part of the Genetics team and contribute to the management of diverse aspects of the service, including the coordination of care for patients, optimization of clinic and operational workflows, and working collaboratively with the team to create a patient-centered and administratively effective environment. Duties will include but are not limited to:
Work with the administrative, clinical, and management teams to support practice operations
Provide support to all administrative functions of Clinical Genetics
Procure medical records and insurance information
Interview patients to obtain demographic, insurance, and medical data
Assist with the ordering and approval process for genetic testing
Answer patient questions about whether genetic tests are ready
Coordinate and schedule appointments, scan documents and update patients' electronic medical records, route and return telephone calls, assist with the creation of patient letters, and participate in team meetings and performance/quality improvement projects
Keep abreast of insurance related issues and perform pre-authorizations and benefit investigations as needed.
Maintain strong dialogue with labs, patients, and genetic counselors to ensure timely genetic testing; this involves coordinating with all parties to ensure sample requirements are met, test costs are understood by all, and other relevant information is provided
Maintain testing log
Ensure appropriate stock of test kits and patient educational information
Work with Genetic Counselors and other clinical providers to draft letters of medical necessity and genetic counseling/ testing consultation letters for genetic testing
Perform other tasks and projects as needed

Salary Range: $26.99-$38.66/HourlyQualifications
Required:
Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software, including: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication (both verbal and written) skills
Ability to analyze information and situations, prioritize tasks, develop solutions and make recommendations
Ability to use good judgment and work independently, with little supervision, and in a team setting
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships across the healthcare system
Ability to adapt to an ever-changing, fast-paced environment
Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
Ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor in interactions with patients, UCLA Health faculty and employees, and outside laboratories/healthcare teams
