UCLA Health Principal Food Service Worker - Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Los Angeles, California

In this

role, you will be an integral member of the team to provide the best customer

service by performing a variety of duties relevant to the retail food service

operations of the Department of Nutrition.

Responsibilities include:

  • Set up service lines

  • Pre-plate and serve food

  • Aid in the preparation of meals

  • Assist customers during service times

  • Merchandise food items and maintain the beverage station

  • Act as a food runner

  • Measure temperatures of hot and cold items

  • Cutting various types of fruit

  • Wash dishes, pans, utensils, and small equipment

Salary

Range: $19.47- $23.71 Hourly

Senate

Bill 525 was signed into law by Governor

Newsom in October 2023. Starting June 1, 2024, SB525 sets a new $23 minimum

wage for nonexempt healthcare workers and raises the exempt employee salary

threshold to $1,380/week (equivalent to $5,980/month or $71,760/year).

  1. As

defined under SB525, healthcare workers are defined as employees who are

involved in the provision of 'health care services,' which means 'patient

care-related services including nursing; caregiving; services provided by

medical residents, interns, or fellows; technical and ancillary services;

janitorial work; housekeeping; grounds keeping; guard duties; business office

clerical work; food services; laundry; medical coding and billing; call center

and warehouse work; scheduling; and gift shop work; but only where such

services support patient care'.

Employees (career, contract, student, per diem) in the UCLA Health medical

facilities (e.g. Ronald Reagan Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Hospital,

Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, etc.) meet these criteria.

Qualifications

  • Basic production skills, for pre-plating of retail foods, assisting with bulk preparation of food, and preparing sandwiches.

  • Ability to organize and maintain clean work stations on an on-going basis.

  • Knowledge of portion control and serving procedures.

  • Knowledge of retail operations such as station setup, replenishment, merchandising and inventory procedures.

  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with co-workers, customers, supervisors and managers.

  • Knowledge of, and adherence to prescribed safety, sanitation, and food handling practices according to HACCP and JC policies.

  • Ability to work independently, following through on assignments with minimal direction.

  • Ability to assist in training peers as needed.

  • Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing priorities to appropriately handle diverse situations.

  • Ability to function fully as a team member, participating in on-going performance improvement projects.

  • Ability to work in standing position for a long period of time; stretch, bend, walk, stoop, and reach repetitively.

  • Ability to work in hot, cold, and or wet areas; and lift, push or pull at least 50lb and push loaded carts weighing 350lbs.

  • Ability to work around or use strong cleaning solutions.

  • Ability to conform to dress code, per infection prevention policies and procedures.

  • Must have the ability to adjust to fluctuating work load and adhere to production schedules.

  • Working knowledge of coffee brewers, tea brewers, toasters, steam tables, flat griddle, broiler, soft serve ice cream dispenser, popcorn machine, fixed can opener, condiment dispenser, Espresso machine, blenders, cash registers, and computers. Use ranges from occasional to frequent depending on job tasks assigned.
