UCLA Health Staff Research Associate 1 - Neurology in Los Angeles, California
Description
Under
supervision of the PI and senior lab post-doctoral fellows, the Staff Research
Associate (SRA 1) will provide organizational support and perform a wide
variety of tasks, including direct involvement in experiments that are crucial
to quality research and the smooth and efficient function of the laboratory.
The SRA 1 will apply excellent organizational skills and record keeping
abilities to assist in the management of the research facilities. You will be
responsible for managing the supply of key research materials such as
antibodies, surgical tools and supplies, oxygen tanks, fluorescent calcium
indicators, and viruses. This role requires previous laboratory experience
including preparation of solutions for experiments (stock solutions, fixatives
for perfusion), and significant involvement in assisting researchers with
experiments. You will perform experiments for in vivo calcium imaging and mouse
behavior. The SRA 1 will take all required safety training. Finally, the SRA 1
will be responsible for the disposal of chemical, hazardous and biological
waste, as well as help keep the lab in compliance with all UCLA Environmental
Health and Safety policies by keeping common areas organized.
Please note that this is a full-time 2-month limited
position and may convert to career .
Salary Range: $25.75 - $30.71/Hourly
Qualifications
Required:
General knowledge of University procedures for ordering laboratory supplies & services.
Demonstrated knowledge of standard laboratory equipment and supplies.
Ability to learn new laboratory equipment, as needed.
Excellent organizational skills and record-keeping ability.
Good communication skills and ability to work well with multiple individuals.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions.
Good attention to detail.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize competing tasks without supervision.
Working knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for handling chemical and biohazard waste.
UCLA Biohazardous Waste certification.
UCLA Chemical Waste certification.
UCLA Shipping Biological Materials certification.
Demonstrated knowledge of chemistry, and skill in preparation of solutions.
Working knowledge of both Macintosh and PC computers.
Preferred:
- B.S or M.S degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related science
