UCLA Health Staff Research Associate I in Los Angeles, California

Description

The Department of Medicine is seeking a dedicated Staff Research Associate I to ensure the seamless and efficient operation of our laboratory. Responsibilities include ordering and inventory management of supplies, animals, and equipment, as well as maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning lab environment. This role also involves assisting undergraduate and graduate students, along with other researchers and Post-Graduate Researchers, on projects that require specialized equipment and technical skills. A key aspect of this position is supporting various laboratory projects by performing specific tasks and procedures under the guidance of the Principal Investigator or Post-Graduate Researchers. These tasks include the maintenance and expansion of mammalian cell cultures and the genetic engineering of cells using virus-based gene delivery vectors.

Hourly range: $25.75-$30.71Qualifications

Required:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs

  • Familiarity with basic lab procedures and equipment

  • Ability to organize ordering, keep a safe environment, maintain properly working equipment and communicate with administrative personnel.

  • Specific knowledge and specialized skills needed to perform standard mammalian cell culture techniques and procedures including DNA transfection

  • Ability to learn new techniques as required

  • Specific knowledge and specialized skills needed to perform light microscopy and confocal microscopy on fixed tissues and cells as well as standard image analysis

  • Specific knowledge and specialized skills needed to perform protein lysate collection and Western blot analysis

  • General knowledge and practical skills needed for preparation of samples for mass spectrometry-based experiments, including lipidomics and protein IP-mass spectrometry

  • Skill in performing various lab techniques and maintaining accurate lab notebook

  • General knowledge and practical skills needed to perform recombinant DNA and molecular biology techniques and procedures, including PCR and DNA extraction

Preferred:

  • BA/BS or MS degree and minimum 1-year research experience

  • Specific knowledge and specialized skills needed to perform construction, production, and testing of virus-based gene delivery vectors

  • Specific knowledge and specialized skills needed to perform advanced mammalian cell culture techniques and procedures, including genetic engineering with viral vectors
